Member Resources

Editors who wish to direct authors of rejected manuscripts to other ISAJE member journals may adapt and incorporate the following into rejection letters. From The Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs with thanks to the editor, Tom Babor.

If you decide to submit to another journal, we recommend that you avoid submitting your manuscript to journals operated by so-called "predatory publishers." These journals provide little or no peer review, and are not indexed sufficiently to allow others to find your work (further information is available here). Although there are many legitimate and even high-impact, high-quality journals that charge publication fees, predatory journals take advantage of charging a fee without providing a legitimate service in return. You can find a list of well-managed addiction journals by accessing a free download of chapter 3 of Publishing Addiction Science.  Also, you can check the quality of a particular journal here.

[The following is an example from a member journal that can be adapted by editors]

Finally, the International Journal of Alcohol and Drug Research has in informal agreement with JSAD to accept our reviews, and will work with authors who would like to resubmit their papers to that journal in order to expedite publication of articles that can be revised.  If you are interested in this option, please contact me for more information about how this would work.
