Nady el-Guebaly
Biography
Dr. el-Guebaly is currently Professor and Head, Division of Addiction, Department of Psychiatry at the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. He is the Founding Past Medical Director of the Calgary Health Region Addiction Centre and Program. He is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association; an Honorary Member of the Canadian Medical Association, the Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine and Italian Society of Addiction Psychiatry; a Fellow of the American College of Psychiatrists, Distinguished Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, and Emeritus member, Alberta Medical Association. He is the Founding Past President of the International Society of Addiction Medicine, its Executive Medical Director for another 6 years, and currently Chief Examiner of the International Certification Examination and Senior Editor of the recent Textbook of Addiction Treatment: International Perspectives (Springer 2015). He completed three 3-year terms as Board Chair of the Alberta Gaming Research Institute, and is now the Alberta Gambling Research Institute’s current Research Director as well as Editor in Chief of the Canadian Journal of Addiction for the last 4 years. Major research interests have included the offspring of alcoholic parents, treatment opportunities for the mentally ill and substance abuser, pathological gambling, medical education, and international delivery of care. |
